Astronomy and the Transit of Venus

Astronomy, perhaps one of the greatest hobbies/careers to have on this planet.  With the Transit of Venus across the surface of the sun come a whole new spectacle.  Astronomers around the world right now are watching this event.  Who knows, by the time you read this, it just might be over.

The great thing about Astronomy, is that there are so many questions that may never be answered.  For example, how big is our Universe?  Do we even know?  I didn’t have a telescope myself to view this phenomena, but I did manage to get some screen captures from the NASA Edge UStream Channel.

I hope you enjoy these images, which are a variety of screen captures taken with a variety of filters.  If you look on some of the images, you’ll notice some Solar Flares.

  1. Couldn’t this only be seen from a few places?

    1. It could only be seen from a few places. Mostly on the other side of the world. Hawaii was one of those places. This is where they had the live stream set up.

      1. Man, that would have been very neat to witness.

      2. I agree, I’m going to try and get me a telescope for the next transit. Although the Venus transit won’t happen for another 100+ years. Although there will be multiple often twice a year Mercury transits. Be prepared next time. November is when Mercury is supposed to transit again.

      3. You’re most welcome. :)
