Colliding Dimensions – a Short Story – Part 1

Colliding Dimensions

The Universe…there seems to be so much about it that we just don’t understand. Perhaps, people aren’t looking in the right direction or perhaps they are? Yet at the same time, we tend to over look the obvious. It’s not always what you think and you’re not always going crazy.

I can remember when things weren’t always black and white. Then, it started happening…I started going crazy or so I thought. It was about a year ago, my name is John Doe and this is my story…..

Chris, one of my buddies sense childhood had asked if I wanted to join some fellow co-workers for lunch. He stands towering over me at 6′ 2” tall and was always at least a head taller than me. Little Ol me, standing at 5′ 6” never stood a chance in those Basketball games. He was always dressed from head to toe and looking sharp. I’ve had my better days. I’ve always been more the casual type and decided to go along for a bit of fun. It was never a dull moment around this crowd.

We opted for a local favorite called Z’s Steak House. The owner Zoe, knew us by name, sense we frequented there. She also took the liberty to seat us and wait on us. The fun loving blond always new how to host a party too. When she had one, we always got an invitation. Lot’s of important people showed up there and it was always a blast.

I always took note of how Zoe dressed. Each day seemed like a different look. Almost as though she had multiple personalities or maybe, she’s just letting her true colors show. She had on a light blue Abercrombie & Fitch button up, yeah I’m a bit of a Fashion Geek. She had on black slacks which appeared to be Italian Tailored and brown dress shoes. She rarely ever dressed down to casual, I guess tonight, she felt like a Tom Boy.

After getting our drinks and settling down, the fun started. Joke after joke piled up and people started looking at us funny because we were always laughing. No better way to spend a meal then in good company, at least in my opinion.

I like to have a glass of wine before I start my Lunch, but only one I’m not an Alcoholic here. I took one sip of my wine and then something really weird happened. Just then a flash of light flew across the room at a break neck pace.

One of the girls asked if I was alright and mentioned that I look like I saw a ghost. I wasn’t sure what I saw, as if things couldn’t get weirder than they already were. I decided to keep quite the rest of the dinner and ponder what had happened. Maybe I was going crazy? Yeah, I was going crazy, that just doesn’t happen from one sip of wine.

On the way back from lunch, Chris and I had a talk about me being quite. He said that some of the ladies were kind of nervous. What? Am I a serial killer now? Sheesh, just because someone ponders something?

The rest of the work day went pretty smooth. Working in a cubicle isn’t exactly ideal. Perhaps I need to quit my job and do my own thing?

I thought about what I might be able to accomplish, but excuses kept crawling out, like bugs coming out of Zombie flesh. Then it hit me, perhaps I could become a painter and inspire through vision? It was getting late, but I figured the local Mart was still open. So I went out to get some art supplies.

Sleep….something we all need, but that night was different. The dream was weird, a canvas and paint with an artist that was nothing but shadow. The colors on the painter board was bright, but something happened when the brush touched the canvas. Colors would become a few shades darker and the ones that touched, let’s just say that they melted together, much like two metals in a hot furnace.

I wasn’t sure what to think or even if I had actually dreamed it. Work would get in the way, when I went back, so I decided to keep my distance and take it slow. Heck, maybe I should just take the day off?
