The Promise of Kepler-22b – Video of the Day

Yet another Astronomy video.  In case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m fascinated by the fact that there is a good chance that Life exist else where in the Universe.  Our galaxy alone is huge, yet they’ve found other galaxies much larger than ours.

Not to mention the shear number of stars, many of them actually having Planets.  Not all of those stars however have Earth-like Planets.  While the percentage is still small, the shear number of stars mean that there is a larger amount of Earth-like Planets than we originally though.

So far, over 50 Alien Planets could potentially support life.  Some of these Earth-like Planets which have been found in the Habitable Zone, are called Super Earths.  Some of which are 10 times larger than the Earth itself.  Could you even begin to imagine the life that might exist on a Planet such as that?

Enjoy the video and let me know if you think there are other Earth-like Planets out there or not.

  1. I’ve always believed there were other planets out there, even in grade school before any planets outside our solar system were known to exist. The more planets we find, the more likely it is they may be capable of sustaining life.

I think there are other earth-like planets out there, and there are probably other beings looking out into space and wondering, just as we do.

    Is there anybody out there?

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more. Who knows, I’m firm believer that there are advanced Alien Races out there. If there are, they’d have advanced enough technology to remain undetected from us for a very long time.

The Universe is huge. The known Universe is huge, let alone the rest of what we can’t see. It’ll be interesting to see where technology is in another 50 years.

Unfortunately, the chances of my being around that long are slim. I’ve always wanted to see beyond my years here on earth, to borrow a back to the future phrase.

      2. Yeah, I admit, it would be nice to actually be able to live long enough to see a thousand years into the future. Who knows, maybe we’ll come in contact with Alien life forms that can expand our life? I would so do that. Considering that fact that I don’t know what lies in wait after death.

  2. Whenever I watch such videos the biggest question posed is whether life can exist in such a planet or is it inhospitable. But that is considering that life on such a planet mimics the one on Earth. What if that planet had other elements on it, not found on Earth, that joined to form life that is vastly different from our own? What if it’s impossible for such a life to exist on our planet and vice-versa? What if our neighboring planets have life but have been hidden from site bcause they live deep underground or are still in the microscopic stages? These are just a few questions that hit me whenever I speculate life outside of Earth. And of course, I do believe that there is life out there because if life can exist here then why not elsewhere?

    1. I agree with you, Many of Mankind can be quite ignorant in the ways of Nature and Life itself. What makes them think that we’re alone to begin with? Religion perhaps? Closed Mindedness Perhaps? The answer is unclear or perhaps it’s a combination of things?
