The Fat Fallacy – The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss
I just finished reading The Fat Fallacy – The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss and thought I’d do a review. If you’re looking to lose weight, then you might be interested in reading this book. On the cover of this book it talks about shedding pounds while eating sumptuous foods. It also talks about eating Chocolate, Butter, Bread, and Cheese to improve your Health.
Introduction
The introduction of the book talks a bit about the Doctors and their visit to France. They spent an entire year there after they got out of College to do their further studies. The introduction also introduces the Faux-Foods Quiz. Personally, being one that never really paid much attention to the ingredients, I didn’t do too well with this. They tell you about the Faux-Food and then give you an ingredients list, as well as a hint. There is however an Answer Key in the back of the book.
Chapter 1 – The Big Fat Myth
This is where the book really starts to get interesting. Everyone loves a good Myth Busting. Just look at the success of Myth Busters. Basically, the French have known for a long time that there are Good Fats and Bad Fats. Took America a long time to catch up to that notion. Another thing, Sugar is your enemy.
Chapter 2 – A French Love Affair with Food
The French love their food, that’s a No Brainer to most, however, there is a big difference in the way that Americans and French eat. For starters, Loving your food doesn’t involve shoveling your food down as fast as you can, Americans. Rather, it involves eating smaller portions, having a variety, and eating slower with smaller bites, French. A Huge difference if you ask me.
Chapter 3 – When Science Looks in the Mirror
How do Scientist look at Exercise vs Fat vs Food? Did you know that Exercise increases the Pleasure of your Food? In other words if you exercise, you’ll enjoy it more. It’s often funny to sit back and look at the Science of Fat and Nutrition. Many Scientist for many years thought that Fat was the enemy, but that’s just not the case.
Chapter 4 – The Science of the French Diet
Is it any wonder that the French are skinny while many Americans are getting over weight? The same can be said for a lot of Europeans, that they tend to be skinnier than Americans are. Can Fat actually be good for us?
Chapter 5 – Miracles for Sale
What about the Drug Companies? Are you one of the latest individuals to fall into the Sucker Trap for these Miracle Fat Loss pills? The only reason that Drug companies exist is because people want an easy way out or at least think there is an easy way out. Gotta work for that weight loss.
Chapter 6 – Train Your Brain
Did you know that the Genetic Theory for Weight Gain is a lie? In a sense Genes do play an important thing in determining how tall we are and how fast we grow. However, weight has nothing to do with Genes. Just because your mamma was over weight, doesn’t mean you will be. What you eat and how much you eat play the role in that. We have to train ourselves to get away from the things that make us Fat and Television could be one of those as well as a lack of exercise.
Chapter 7 – The Plan: How You Should Eat
Are you a Habitual or Emotional eater? Perhaps you need take a look and read this book. Forming Good Habits is essential to weight loss. Not to mention that Rushing your Food leads to weight loss. If you Rush, you’re eating way more than your body needs and eventually your body will get used to that amount and slowly demand more. This chapter also talks about Restaurants and how they want to get you in, out, and paid as quickly as possible. Oh joy, the American Way.
Chapter 8 – The Plane: What You Should Eat
Did you know that the foundation of foreign Food Pyramids often include Exercise at the very bottom and then include a Daily, Weekly, and Monthly category? Olive Oil, Cheese, and Chocolate? Now don’t get all excited, this books mentions like any others that it’s Dark Chocolate, so you might want to get used to it. There is also a little Trivia on Chocolate here which is interesting. Did you know Chocolate was first discovered in the New World? Also, the Aztecs actually used the Cocoa Beans as Currency.
Chapter 9 – If It Ain’t Food, Don’t Eat It
This should be a No Brainer. All the food on the shelves that have a Huge Life Span, we shouldn’t be eating those. Also, if you’re 7 year old can’t look at the package and tell what it is or read the ingredients, it’s not food. Not to mention, there is a list of You Know It’s a Faux Food if…section. You know it’s a Faux Food if it’s neon and it’s not also a Tropical Fish. A little Humor there. This chapter also touches up on High Fructose Corn Syrup and Aspartame. If you use artificial sweeteners or eat a lot of High Fructose Corn Syrup, you might want to read this book.
Chapter 10 – The Specifics: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Do you eat Breakfast at work or on the go? Probably not the best idea. We need to sit down and enjoy our food before we rush out the door. For Lunch, try not to get the Massive Portion Sizes. Often times a small combo or medium will do fine for most. If you’re at a restaurant, try eating appetizers. For Dinner, don’t eat prepackaged food and remember, Variety is the key. You can also snack for Supper, just make sure it’s healthier snacks and take your time to enjoy them.
Chapter 11 – The Shopping List
What should you get and what should you not get? According to The Fat Fallacy, you can actually have Ice Cream. Of course as long as it’s not laden with tons of ingredients and food coloring. Fresh baked bread is also on the list, go ahead and enjoy it with a bit of Real Butter and Cheese, or maybe you want to dip it in some Olive Oil. According to this Diet, one should avoid Red Meat as much as possible. Maybe once or twice a Month. Also, try to stay out of the center of the store and shop around the outside. Unless of course you need spices.
Chapter 12 – Meal Plans and Recipes
Does Salmon Filets, Broiled Potatoes, and Asparagus Parmesan sound good to you? What about Sundried Tomato Pasta with Vodka Cream Sauce and Broccoli Citron? Don’t worry, there are some great desserts, such as Pumpkin Pie and Homemade Whip Cream. Sound like your sort of thing? Then this is your book.
Overall, I found this book very educational. The Fat Fallacy and The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss is a real wake up call. If you’re wondering why, then here’s a hint. Nearly 70% of the products on our shelves contain some form of Sugar. Simply because Americans are in general afraid of Fat. With a Low Fat and High Sugar diet, it’s no wonder Americans are more over weight than other countries. You can pick this book up on Amazon today. I highly recommend it.
Spontaneous Healing #1
Spontaneous Healing is a book about people miraculously healing. Many of the stories in the book are from people that were nearly dead, or should be dead today. There are also tips and advice in the book for people who want to seek alternative paths to healing. Rather than the modern methods.
In 1974 Kristen was 19 years old. She was living with friends in Hawaii when she came down with an illness. It all started with the sign of a Bruise that mysteriously showed up on her leg. When the iron supplements that the Doctor suggested failed to produce results, they did some blood work.
She was eventually diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a condition where the Bone Marrow doesn’t produce Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, or Platelets. This is very bad for the system because it weakens your immune system. In other words, you’re much more susceptible to infections and viral attacks.
The bad part about this? The Doctors ended up giving her Immunosuppressive drugs. They also gave her something to keep her from having periods, so she wouldn’t have children. Why? The body was at risk of internal bleeding and damage. Not a good time to get pregnant.
Needless to say, the Doctors ended up not being able to help her. In other words, she was sent home to die, with support and aid from the Doctors. That alone wasn’t enough for Kristen, she wanted to live. She was bound and determined to live.
She managed to find a couple of Psychic Healers to work with over the time and also talked to a Nutritionist, that was a Certified Naturopathic Doctor. By changing her diet, and getting help from the healers, she was able to overcome her sickness.
Even despite the fact that she’s not supposed to be able to have children, she now have 4 children that she’s raising today. All because she didn’t give up, because she wanted to live. Her immune system is back to normal and she’s living a happy life.
I will be sharing other stories of similar backgrounds that come from this book. Not all of them, but a good portion of them. I’ll be posting them as I read them. The beauty of the Human Body is the fact that it can take care of itself. Let’s start taking care of ourselves so we can heal.
