That’s Enough Sun
Woke up early this morning to head out to the acre we have to work and plant some Sugarcane. Working several hours during the day is more than enough outside activity for me.
I’ve gotten enough Sun today that it could last me all week. Ok, maybe not, but I worked hard today. Dug one entire 50ft strip without stopping. It was as deep as the shovel tip, so I had to really work at it.
Shoveling is a great back work out. If you’re out of shape, try shoveling for about 20-30 minutes. You’ll start to feel it.
My Uncle brought us lunch out there, Fried Chicken, yum. Popeyes has the best Chicken, in my opinion. KFC, just isn’t good anymore and they’re expensive.
Needless to say, we got three rows of Sugarcane planted. This batch is aChewing variety. The next batch we’ll be planting is a Syrup variety.
Something I found out is, Rum is made with Sugarcane, so I just might experiment with that for home use.
Seems like I’ve gotten enough exercise regardless today. Feeling pretty tired right now. Might be heading to bed early tonight.
Some people don’t get enough Sun, I’m actually one of them. That’ll be one thing I’ll be working on in the next few months.
Drowsy Sugarcane
Is it just me, or is there something about Sugarcane that makes you drowsy? Today is my 30th Birthday. I spent the most of yesterday and today traveling and learning about Sugarcane.
What was the topic? Weed control, of all things. The ironic thing? Sugarcane is actually a very tall grass, and the most common form of weed control when it comes to Sugarcane? Grass. Why is this ironic?
Supposedly, the absolute best way to manage weeds in your Sugarcane patch is, get this, digging it out by hand. Gasp. There are other options of course, but seriously? I could have told you that. And I’m not a Gardener.
So, how was my weekend? For starters, I had a headache yesterday. I think it was Sinus Congestion related, so we picked up some cold medicine. Why? Cold medicine is good for relieving congestion. Now, if only that would work on traffic congestion?
Needless to say, the cold medicine didn’t work, so I had a headache most of the day and had to sleep it off. Next time, I’m getting the Allergy/Sinus pills and taking some headache pills.
I thought about taking my camera, but there wasn’t really much to take pictures of. Nothing worth while anyway. There was one building that would have been worth the effort, but alas, no camera.
So, between driving to the Sugarcane, loading it up, and driving back from the Sugarcane, it’s been a pretty taxing trip. Enjoyable, despite the headache, but taxing. I was really tired last night, not sure I even slept. Not doing much today has made it another tiring day.
I did however learn about something that I’m going to do a bit more research on. A religion called Santeria, that actually still practices animal sacrifices today. They do mention though, that 99% of the animals they sacrifice, end up eaten. The other thing that I learned about? Tiger Lizards. Those things are ferocious and strong for their size. Both worth looking into.
Being my birthday, we stopped at Outback Steakhouse on the way home. I had the No Rules Parmesan pasta with Grilled Shrimp and Scallops. It was pretty good, especially the shrimp.
It’s great to be back home though. Let’s see how tonight’s sleep goes. That was my weekend in a nutshell. How was yours?
Birthdays – Blah Blah Blah
Ok, maybe not Blah Blah Blah, but Birthdays can be interesting. Most of the time. Coming up here in a few days, will be my Birthday. November 7th to be exact, yep I’m a Scorpio.
So, what’s the big deal? Looks like I’ll be out of town for two days. The 6th and the 7th for both days. We’re heading south to apparently learn about and collect some Sugar Cane.
The University of Florida is holding a Seminar on Sugar Cane and we’ve registered. It cost us $15 per person, plus we have to get a motel room. So, it’ll be my Mother and Father, as well as myself. I’m not sure who else we know is going to go.
Apparently they have several different types of Sugar Cane growing. We’re allowed to cut down 15 different stalks of each variety that they have. But, we have to bring our own Sugar Cane Knife. Which we do have one. And our own transportation to get to the field.
Just to be clear, that’s 15 stalks of each variety per person that comes. Which could end up to being a decent amount of Sugar Cane.
What are we going to do with all this Sugar Cane? Grow it of course. Seeing as how the Seminar is meant to teach you all about Sugar Cane, the processes, and the growing aspect of it, it only makes sense to grow it.
We’ve already got a place picked out to grow it. We just have to plow it. “Which is always a fun task.” If you’ve ever plowed a Garden, you know it’s hard work.
My only complaint? Why does this dang Seminar have to be on “My Birthday.” Sigh. Oh well, looks like I’ll at least get to pick where we’re having dinner.
